Q&A: NEIL SUMMERS

Q&A: NEIL SUMMERS

We have introduced a little segment for our blog titled: WILDBUNCH & Friends - Q&A

Each week we will ‘interview’ people who we are friends of, admire, find Interesting or generally just find funny.

First up, is our friend from the North West and someone who needs no introduction: Balearic DJ and Dad, co-founder of Proper Mag, the Stockport Stylist Mr Neil Summers.

What did you have for breakfast?

Two cups of palpitation inducing coffee and loads of (prescribed) drugs.

What’s good about your hometown?

It’s a very easy place to escape from. You can be in the Peak District, Manchester City centre or an international airport within 15 minutes of leaving the place. Though if you stick around Robbies beer, Blossoms the band , Finders Keepers records and Where The Light Gets In restaurant are all pretty phenomenal too.

Tell us something that not many people know about you?

I used to be a private detective and once achieved ‘second hardest punch ever’ on a punchbag machine in Blackpool.

Favourite City

Lucca in Tuscany, its beautiful to look at, has some of the best food Ive ever eaten in my life and theres a shop there that sells massive Woolwich parkas all year round.

Favourite 3 brands for 2021 and why?

Akta Norr - It’s like Engineered Garments but miles harder coz it’s from Ardwick.

Nandecott - It’s like Nigel Cabourn but without all the laughing and medicine balls.

Haglofs - It’s like Arc’teryx but loads sexier as it’s made by dead fit Swedes.

You’ve got £300 to spend on one item of menswear, tell us what you’re gonna be buying?

A vintage 1980s C.P. Company parka from TOO HOT.

Provide us with a synopsis for your autobiography (in a paragraph) and what would you call it?

Curriculum Vimto: A Life in Jobs.

Most people tend to stick to the same job or only switch careers a couple of times during their working life, but not Neil Summers. From delivering flowers in Moss Side at the tender age of seven to interviewing global superstars for prime time TV (via two stints behind the desk at Marple jobcentre amongst many, many other positions) Neil has been there, done that and got the lanyards to prove it.

If a film was made of your life, give us four songs that would be included on the soundtrack?

Life’s What You Make It - Talk Talk

Allergic to Lies - Lee Scratch Perry & Dub Syndicate

Be What You Wanna Be - A Certain Ratio

Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me - The Smiths

Lessons learnt from the Pandemic Year?

This country is populated by some incredibly stupid and selfish people.

Obscure 1980s European pop music can stop you going mad.

It’s very easy to accidentally kill someone whilst riding your horse through the city of Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Commuting and working in an office is a terrible waste of time/your life.
